Social Media Marketing Session


Session which was previously going to be conducted by Mr. Rajiv Dingra, Founder and CEO of WATConsult on 3rd Sept 2010 was finally conducted on 17th Sept by Mr. Zaeem Mirza (although he doesn’t like to be addressed as Mr.) from Google. It was a little bit surprising to know that he was of the same age group (even we passed our 12th in 2003). The session began at 9.40 am today and as Zaeem had mentioned he had prepared a presentation of 4 slides excluding 2 filler slides.
The first session began with the word “SOCIAL”. What does it mean, open discussions on the word social and what we felt about it. A couple of networking sites were discussed like ‘asw.net’(elite people), ‘emarketer.com’ where we need to register. Also the exporting and importing of contacts was mentioned (Facebook doesn’t allow you to export contacts). Then there were a couple of statements ©Zaeem like “Best Search Engine will be an engine which will give only 1 result”; “No response is also a response”. An example was taken – if we know a person’s birthdate then what all can we make out from marketing prospective.
In second session we discussed about some of the terms like Silver Bullet, Brand channels on YouTube, Contextual Ads, Non-contextual ads, AIDA model, serving ads based on intent, UGC – user generated content, Data mining, graph your index, Phone analyzer, Google analytics etc. Again a couple of sites were mentioned such as About.com, Mouthshut.com, Mashable.com, Techcrunch.com, Labnol.com and vimeo.com.
In the last session we discussed about LinkedIn; what we need to do – completing profile by using keywords which are best suited to be searched by HR managers of your dream company while hiring. Also about the domain name buying and some of the sites like Alexa.com and Bridget.com. Blog writing was also discussed in the class on which we got an assignment due to which this blog has been initiated today.
